The Sheriff of Nottingham

The Sheriff of Nottingham is still a role that exists today. Almost 1000 years old, the role of the Sheriff of Nottingham has changed quite a bit, and today the Sheriff of Nottingham can expect to attend up to 350 civic events in one year.

This year's Sheriff of Nottingham is Cllr Leon Unczur. Last year he set up a group called the Sheriff's Commission to come up with a range of events and attractions based around the Robin Hood legends to help boost tourism in the city.

The Sheriff's Commission pulls together historians, business leaders, tourism experts, Robin Hood enthusiasts and politicians to maximise the impact of the City and County's legendary outlaw, Robin Hood, to the benefit of Nottingham's residents and visitors and the City and County's local, national and international reputation.

This year, the Sheriff has been visited by a number of international journalists, all hot on the trail of Robin Hood, thanks to the new Robin Hood movie, released in May 2010.
