Equalities Standard - Equalities Impact Assessment (EIA)

As part of the Authority's work towards the Equality Standard for Local Government teams of officers across all service areas are carrying out Equality Impact Assessments of City Council policies, procedures, functions and services.

The purpose of these assessments or EIAs is simply to determine whether any changes we make or new services we develop have a positive or negative impact on any of the six key equality strands i.e. race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion/belief and/or age.

If an EIA shows that a group is adversely affected e.g. a new service does not make provision for disabled children it gives us the information we need to know to decide whether we indeed set up that service. It also gives us the opportunity to make changes to the service to ensure that it is accessible to all the children and young people it needs to reach allowing them fair and equal treatment.
