What is the Free Access for National Sportspeople (FANS) grant?

The Nottingham city FANS scheme is designed to give free access to Nottingham City Council leisure centres for sports people who are competing at a national level, e.g. who are currently representing their country in any age group.

The scheme is an important Sport & Leisure Services initiative which aims to provide support and encouragement to the city's leading talented and elite performers to assist with their ongoing traning and rehabilitation from injury.

Eligibility

• Evidence confirming your involvement at a national level will be required from the appropriate governing body
• Only sports people competing at a national level can apply - for example applicants must be in a national represenative squad and competing at national level champions/competitions
• The scheme is open to athletes representing any country i.e. not just Great Britain
• Only sports listed within Sport England definitions are eligible (to check this visit the Sport England website and search for 'recognised sports')
• The scheme is open to applicants of any age who meet the criteria, however under 16s will have restricted access for certain activities
• Applicants must live within Nottingham city local authority boundaries.  If you are currently training in Nottingham city but living outside the city boundaries, you need to apply to the local authority you live in, who will operate a similar scheme
• For performers with a disability the scheme is also extended to a 'buddy' who needs to attend with you and to assist with your training (this would need to be verified by the governing body)
